My Story | Death to Life

Baptism

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Matthew 28:19-20

Are You Ready?

One of the most meaningful steps in affirming your faith and trust in Jesus is to follow Him in baptism—it’s the outward expression of your inward decision. This is your opportunity to publicly declare you now believe and trust Jesus with your life and recognize God’s forgiveness of your sins. It’s also a time for the church to gather around you and celebrate what God has done.

If you’ve made a commitment to Jesus and haven’t been baptized as an adult, we’d love to baptize you as you follow Jesus’ command and publicly declare your life has changed because of Him.

Why does Pathway Church baptize people?

Our church baptizes people with a three-fold purpose…

IDENTIFICATION

Jesus was baptized (Mark 1:9), and we want to follow His example. If you are ready to get baptized, we want to celebrate with you now—don't wait!

Symbolism

When you are laid back into the water, it symbolizes Jesus’ death – a life willingly laid down for your sin; submersion is a symbol of His being buried – closure; but that wasn’t the end – he was raised from the dead, symbolized by your being lifted from the water (Colossians 2:12). While baptism is a visual depiction of the gospel of Christ, it is also a testimony, we have died to our old life, laid it down and now are raised to a new life in Christ (Romans 6:2-4). Baptism is a personal statement of faith, not a tradition. It doesn’t make you a believer; it shows that you already are one! Baptism does not “save” you, only your faith in Christ can do that. Baptism is like a wedding ring – it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart. Jesus said in Matthew 10:32-33… If you don’t openly confess me before men; I will deny you before my father.

Obedience

Jesus was baptized (Mark 1:9), and we want to follow His example. We also want to obey His command to go and baptize (Matthew 28:19). It is usually not recommended to delay baptism; Biblical examples are to be baptized almost immediately following a person’s commitment to follow Christ.
